All About Tahini

Tahini is a paste made from ground sesame seeds which has its origins in the Arabic countries of the Mediterranean. Although delicious by itself on bread or toast it is often blended with other ingredients to make sauces, dressings, dips and spreads or used as an ingredient in pies and casseroles etc. as well as in sweet dishes such as cheesecakes, cakes and puddings.
Tahini is a fairly concentrated nutritional food source. It is one of the best sources of vitamins E, F, and T as well as vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B15, Biotin and Choline. It is also a fair source of vitamin A. Tahini also rich in amino acids and essential minerals and is 20% complete protein, being richer in protein than milk, soya beans, sunflower seeds and most nuts.
It is one of the richest sources of Methionine (an essential amino acid) and also contains natural lecithin, which reduces blood fat levels and provides protection from environmental pollutants such as nicotine. Tahini also supplies significant amounts of the minerals magnesium, potassium, iron and phosphorous and even larger amounts of the mineral calcium. In fact Tahini is reputed to be the best food source of calcium there is but unlike dairy products which are the traditional source of calcium in a Western diet it is not mucous forming. Our tahini is processed using very slow moving stone mills which minimizes the heating of the seeds and ensures maximum retention of nutrients. Conventional tahini made using high speed roller mills is heated to such a temperature that vital nutrients are destroyed in the process. Tahini manufactured in this way also tends to separate out leaving the ground seeds on the bottom of the container, very hard and dry, and a thick layer of oil floating on top. On the other hand there is only very minimal separation in tahini made using the stone milling method.
Despite its high oil content tahini has excellent keeping qualities and will not go rancid even if left unrefigerated after opening. This is because sesame contains the natural preservatives sesamin and sesamol which stabalise it over long periods. The tahini made with unhulled seeds is more vitamin and mineral rich than that made with the hulled seeds but it is also darker and stronger in flavour.

All about Dates

Dates: A Nutritional Powerhouse

*California dates are sodium-free, fat-free (including saturated fat-free), cholesterol-free and provide 14% of the RDA for dietary fibre.
*A serving of dates contains 31 grams of carbohydrates which are readily assimilated by the body making dates a perfect choice as an energy-boosting snack.
*Only 23 calories per serving (5-6 whole dates, or 1/4-cup pitted dates, equal one serving).
*One serving of California dates contains 240 mg of potassium, or 7% of the RDA for this essential nutrient. In fact, weight for weight, dates contain more potassium than bananas. Potassium is an essential mineral needed by the body to maintain muscle contractions (including the vital heart muscle), a healthy nervous system and to help with the body's metabolism. This is an important consideration for physically active people since the body's supply of potassium can be reduced through perspiration. Eating California dates and drinking water is an ideal, natural way to replenish the body's need for potassium.
*California dates contain a variety of B-complex vitamins: thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B-6 and pantothenic acid. B vitamins help metabolize carbohydrates and maintain blood glucose levels and fatty acids for energy. They also help make hemoglobin, the red and white blood cells.
*One serving of California dates provides 4% of the RDA for magnesium, an essential nutrient for healthy bone development.
Medicinal Uses
The fruit, because of its tannin content, is used medicinally as a detersive (detergent) and astringent in intestinal troubles. In the form of an infusion, decoction, syrup or paste, it is administered as a treatment for sore throat, colds and bronchial catarrh. Can also be taken to relieve fever, cystisis, gonorrhea, edema, liver and abdominal troubles. Has also been used to counteract alcohol intoxication.
Date Varieties
"Semi-dry" dates have firmer flesh and a relatively lower moisture content than "soft" varieties. The Deglet Noor ("Date of Light"), a medium-large, oblong and amber-coloured date and the Zahidi ("Nobility"), a smaller, more egg-shaped and golden-coloured date, are the most popular semi-dry varieties.
Although the total sugars in the semi-dry dates are approximately equal to those in the softer dates, the sugars have not fully inverted. Rather, the semi-dry dates contain about 50% inverted sugars and 50% sucrose. Since they are firmer, semi-dry dates can be harvested mechanically, can be processed successfully and can be held in moisture-proof packaging with little deterioration.
DEGLET NOOR
Called the "Date of Light," a semi-dry date, possesses a delicate flavour and is long and firm-textured in appearance, with a colour range from light red to amber. Makes up 90% of California's crop.
MEDJOOL
The connoisseur's date: large, firm but moist, with a rich mahogany colour, Medjools are a must for gift tray arrangements.
BARHI
Named for the hot Arabic winds called "Barh," this is a late-ripening date with a medium-thin skin which can be easily split. Small and round, Barhis are soft, syrupy-tasting dates with tender, firm flesh. Since they are so very fragile and to minimize handling, Barhis can be purchased in a pre-packed 5-lb box as well as in full case lots of 12 lbs. Barhis must be kept refrigerated.
KHADRAWI
A soft date with many desirable qualities. They ripen to amber, then are cured to a reddish brown, with a caramel-like texture and a sweet flavour.
HALAWI
A soft date with thick flesh, caramelly and sweet, somewhat wrinkled in appearance, with a yellow colour ripening to a light amber and then to a golden brown.

All about Maca Powder

Maca Powder, certified organic, from Peru
Maca root has been used by native Indians in Peru as a vital ingredient to health for thousands of years. Maca's use goes back to around 3800 B.C., when Peruvian Indians cultivated and ate it for both its nutritional and medicinal value. Centuries later in 1549 A.D., records indicate that, during his time in Peru, the Spanish explorer Captain de Soto received Maca from the Indians as a gift in return for his help in improving methods of animal husbandry in the Peruvian Castille region. By 1572, as Maca's health-giving properties gained notoriety, the Chinchayochas Indians had begun using Maca root for barter. It was not until 1843 that this plant was studied by scientists and given the botanical name of Lepidium meyenii, Walpers. after German Botanist Gerhard Walpers.

Maca root grows in the mountains of Peru at high altitudes of 7,000 to 11,000 feet, making it the highest altitude growing plant in the world. Maca is a radish-like root vegetable that is related to the potato family, and is tuberous and spherical in form. The root itself is about three to six centimeters across and 4.7 centimeters in length. There are four recognized types of Maca Root based on the color of the root. Root color varies from creamy yellow or light pink to dark purple or black.

Chemically Maca root contains significant amounts of amino acids, carbohydrates, and minerals including calcium, phosphorous, zinc, magnesium, iron, as well as vitamins B1, B2, B12, C and E. Peruvian Maca also includes a number of glycosides.

As a nutritional supplement, Peruvian Maca has generalized tonic effects on the biochemical functioning of the human body. Chief among these effects is the enhancement of endocrine function. The endocrine system includes all of the glands, and the hormones they secrete, that exist in the body and that control such conditions as fertility, sexual function, digestion, brain and nervous system physiology, and energy levels. Hormonal regulation is responsible for all of the physiological attributes that enable us to enjoy the myriad sensations of being vibrantly alive, including those related to sexual arousal, physical activity and mental-emotional states of being. Maca root has also been called an adaptogen, which means that it increases the body's ability to defend itself against both physical and mental weakening, hence potential illness. It is believed it achieves this by supporting adrenal and pituitary gland health, both of which underlie proper endocrine function.

Maca Powder is a Certified Organically grown and processed product, non-irradiated, and chemical-free. The Maca root is dried at a low temperature, ensuring maximum preservation of nutrients. The result is the optimal light-colored and non-oxidized sweet taste of a high quality product.

Known Modern Applications:

Traditionally, Maca has been used for a variety purposes, which can differ for men and women. For example, women have found it helps relieve the symptoms of PMS and menopause. Women tend to notice a dramatic decline in hot flashes and night sweats. Men have used it to enhance fertility and sexual function. Users of Maca root tend to derive a variety of benefits in accordance with their individual needs. However, both men and women have found that it significantly boosts libido and sex drive, increases energy, stamina and the feeling of general well-being. In fact, recently Maca has been used as an excellent alternative to anabolic steroids among athletes seeking muscle hypertrophy. Unlike many other energy- and muscle-boosting substances, such as anabolic steroids, Maca contains no chemicals that interfere with or over-activate normal endocrine function.

How Can Maca Benefit You?:

  • Male:
  • Increases energy (Chronic Fatigue)
  • Treat sexual dysfunction (Loss of Libido)
  • Increases stamina & athletic performance
  • Nourishes glandular system
  • Fertility enhancement
  • Improves physical and emotional well being
  • Promotes mental clarity

  • Balances moods
  • Enhances memory and brain function
  • Increases energy levels
  • Helps adapt to stress
  • Slows the aging process
  • Lessens aches and pain, more endurance and stamina
  • Prevents osteoporosis, high calcium and vegetable protein
  • Reverses vaginal dryness
Menopause doesn't have to be unbearable - implementing Maca Powder into a sensible diet & lifestyle regime can produce positive effects.

How does Maca Root aid in the relief?

First and foremost it balances the hormonal system. It works on the pituitary gland, which regulates all hormone production in the body. Hot flashes are diminished; sleep is normalized while stress levels are reduced when incorporating Maca Powder into a daily wellness routine. Peruvian Maca root encourages the body to produce its own hormones to restore balance, instead of introducing hormones to the body. It's the simple, natural approach that brings a world of difference to women suffering from the sometimes debilitating symptoms.

Maca root is a superfood naturally high in vitamins and minerals the body needs for nourishment. Its adaptogenic qualities make it a multi-faceted herb useful for a wide variety of conditions that women of all ages can benefit from.

Adaptogens increase the body's ability to cope with physical, chemical and biological stress. Characteristics of an adaptogenic herb are non-toxic, while increasing resistance to stress, fatigue & distress - helping the body regain balance. Ginseng is another (perhaps more familiar) adaptogen, that has been used in Asia for thousands of years for strength and vitality and it's reputed aphrodisiac effects. Maca root falls into this same category, yet it is relatively new to North America although it's been used in Peru for thousands of years.

How do I take Maca Powder?

Maca Powder is a 100% Certified Organic Powder that can be added to a breakfast fruit smoothie - blend fresh fruit, 1 tsp. of Maca powder with soy/rice milk or yogurt. It is naturally sweet flavored and blends in well. OR sprinkle it on top of your cereal or mix in with muesli. If you prefer capsules, Maca Powder can be put into vegi-caps, non gelatin capsules that are easy to take - wherever you are, great for people on the go with busy schedules.

How soon will I see results?

Each individual is different, some women experience decreased hot flashes within days of taking Peruvian Maca root while others may take weeks to fine tune the hormonal system - it depends on the condition of your body. But be patient! The results are worth it.

All about Goji Berries

Goji Berry (Lycium) is also commonly known as Wolfberry. Like many of the herbs and natural supplements that have been found in Asia, Goji Berry is known to have to many positive effects for people who want to promote total body health. Goji has been around for more than 6,000 years and can be cultivated in many temperate climates throughout the world.

One of the most important tests for Goji Berry was run in 1994, when scientists found that patients suffering from cancer were more receptive to their treatments and showed better results from those treatments when they had eaten the berries. This makes sense because the primary draw of Goji is the fact that it has antioxidants that are known to fight off cancer and other infectious diseases.

Goji Berry is good for promoting proper cell growth and the antioxidants found within it are very powerful in disease prevention. One of the interesting finds was that Goji could help lower glucose levels in individuals and also lower cholesterol in some people. There are many things that are not yet known about Goji Berry, but all of the tests up to this point indicate that it can be a very good item for those people looking to get healthier and ward off potential disease in the future. It makes sense for those folks who just want to take a holistic approach to their health.

The antioxidants within Goji are most well known for fighting off disease within the liver. For people who want to protect their liver in the face of alcohol or drug use, the berry supplements can be especially helpful.

Improved eyesight is thought to be a positive effect, while increased leg strength is, as well. This promotes the theory that the berry helps to improve the body as a whole, instead of just helping to improve any one particular area. With this knowledge, people have been much more likely to try Goji as a part of their daily routine. Those who use it daily have found that Goji increases their energy levels to a point where they feel more able and much more refreshed than in the past.

Goji Berry has also been found to help increase fertility in women and help improve sexual function in men. One reason for this is that it improves circulation throughout the body, allowing people to perform at their peak in a host of different activities. Sexual activity is one of those and although it is a nice side effect, it is not the focus of Goji Berry.

Improving immune function and longevity are two items that most people cite when they use Goji Berry. They want to ward off not only things like cancer through the antioxidants, but they also want to stay healthier on a day to day basis. Having to constantly fight off things like a cold or the flu can weigh on the body and it can make life difficult for people during their routine. In order to stay healthy for longer, the body has to stay sharp and this can only happen when you are free of disease. In this way, vitality and long term function is increased by Goji Berry.

All in all, Goji is popular not just for one purpose, but because it helps to improve the body in lots of different ways. The tests have shown that it has significant power to both prevent and help cure diseases such as cancer, while other tests have proven Goji to be an effective holistic treatment. Total body health is a concern for most, so it figures that those people would want to use Goji to not only lengthen life, but improve the quality of their life.

All about SuperGreens

Spirulina is a simple one-celled microscopic fresh-water blue-green algae with the scientific name Arthrospira platensis.

Spirulina is often deemed the most nutritionally complete of all food supplements, containing a rich supply of many important nutrients, including protein, complex carbohydrates, iron, and vitamins A, K, and B complex. It also has a high supply of carotenoids such as beta carotene and yellow xanthophylls which have antioxidant properties. It is also rich in chlorophyll, fatty and nucleic acids, and lipids. Thus, spirulina has countless uses as a supplement for maintaining good health and for preventing diseases.

Spirulina is the richest beta carotene food, with a full spectrum of ten mixed carotenoids. About half are orange carotenes: alpha, beta and gamma and half are yellow xanthophylls. They work synergistically at different sites in our body to enhance antioxidant protection. Twenty years of research proves eating beta carotene rich fruits and vegetables gives us real anti-cancer protection. Spirulina contains the 9-cis isomer. As suspected, natural carotenoids in algae and vegetables have the most antioxidant and anti-cancer power.

Spirulina is an ideal anti-aging food, with its concentrated nutrient value, being easily digested and loaded with antioxidants. Beta carotene is good for healthy eyes and vision. Spirulina beta carotene is ten times more concentrated than carrots.

Iron is essential to build a strong system, yet is the most common mineral deficiency. Spirulina is rich in iron, magnesium and trace minerals, and is easier to absorb than iron supplements.

Spirulina is the highest source of B-12, essential for healthy nerves and tissue, especially for vegetarians.

About 60% of spirulina’s dry weight is protein, which is essential for growth and cell regeneration. It is a good replacement for fatty and cholesterol-rich meat and dairy products in one’s diet. Every 10 grams of spirulina can supply up to 70% of the minimum daily requirements for iron, and about three to four times of minimum daily requirements for vitamins A (in the form of beta carotene), B complex, D,and K. By itself, it does not contain vitamin C, but it helps maintain this vitamin’s potency.

Spirulina is rich in gamma-linolenic acid or GLA, a compound found in breast milk that helps develop healthier babies.

Spirulina stimulates growth of beneficial flora like lactobacillus and bifidobacteria in your digestive tract to promote healthy digestion and proper bowel function. It acts as a natural cleanser by eliminating mercury and other deadly toxins commonly ingested by the body.

Spirulina also increases stamina and immunity levels in athletes, and its high protein content helps build muscle mass. At the same time, it can curb hunger that may develop during the most demanding training routines. Thus, it indirectly acts as an effective way to maintain an athlete’s ideal body weight.

As well as beta carotene, Spirulina contains other nutrients such as iron, manganese, zinc, copper, selenium, and chromium. These nutrients help fight free radicals, cell-damaging molecules absorbed by the body through pollution, poor diet, injury, or stress. By removing free radicals, the nutrients help the immune system fight cancer and cellular degeneration. In some findings, spirulina has helped reduce oral cancer tumors in laboratory rats, and may thus provide a big medical breakthrough in cancer treatment.

Spirulina’s ability to reduce the bad cholesterol LDL in the body helps prevent the onset of cardiovascular diseases, such as hardening of the arteries and strokes. It also helps lower blood pressure. While not clinically proven, spirulina may also protect against allergic reactions and liver infection.

Research confirms Spirulina promotes digestion and bowel function. It suppresses bad bacteria like e-coli and Candida yeast and stimulates beneficial flora like lactobacillus and bifidobacteria. Healthy flora is the foundation of good health and it increases absorption of nutrients from the foods we eat, and helps protect against infection. Spirulina builds healthy lactobacillus, aiding assimilation and elimination and relieving constipation.

In 1994, a Russian Patent was awarded for spirulina as a medical food to reduce allergic reactions from radiation sickness. 270 Children of Chernobyl consuming 5 grams a day for 45 days, lowered radionucleides by 50%, and normalized allergic sensitivities. Today we are subject to an onslaught of toxic chemicals in our air, water, food and drugs. Our bodies need to continually eliminate these accumulated toxins. Spirulina has a completely unique combination of phytonutrients - including chlorophyll, phycocyanin and polysaccharides, that can help cleanse our bodies.

Spirulina is now commercially available in tablet or powder form. Some health tonics contain spirulina as part of their ingredients. A simple daily regimen for spirulina involves taking 1 tbsp of powder once a day.

Spirulina Herb Information / Side Effects

Latin Names: Arthrospira platensis

Common Names: Macroalgae, Phytoplankton, Spirulina

Uses: AIDS/HIV, arthritis, athletic nutrition, enhancing natural cleansing and detoxification, supporting cardiovascular function and healthy cholesterol, strengthening the immune system, improving gastrointestinal and digestive health, reducing cancer risks with antioxidant protection, general and long term health.

Precautions and Contraindications

While it has a very high nutritional value, spirulina may also cause some side effects. Some individuals may suffer from allergic reactions to this algae, including rashes, hives, and difficulty breathing. Some commercial versions of spirulina supplements may have also been contaminated with toxic substances during production. It is therefore absolutely critical to buy spirulina only from reputable sources.

People with the rare metabolic condition phenylketonuria (PKU) are not able to metabolize the amino acid phenylalanine, and therefore should avoid taking spirulina. Likewise, people with autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, or lupus should not take spirulina, as it could stimulate the immune system and worsen the condition. Spirulina may also counteract the effectiveness of certain medicines, such as prednisone, which are commonly used for treating asthma and other inflammatory diseases.

While spirulina may appear safe at large doses, healthy adults should seek a doctor’s advice for the right dosage. Children and pregnant or nursing women should also consult a doctor before taking spirulina.

CHLORELLA

Chlorella is a fresh water, single-celled algae that grows in fresh water. Chlorella emerged over 2 billion years ago, and was the first form of a plant with a well-defined nucleus. Because Chlorella is a microscopic organism, it was not discovered until the late 19th century, deriving its name from the Greek, "chloros" meaning green and "ella" meaning small. In fact that chlorella contains the highest amount of chlorophyll of any known plant.

It is thought to boost the immune system and help fight infection. It has been shown to increase the good bacteria in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, which helps to treat ulcers, colitis, diverticulosis and Crohn's disease. It is also used to treat constipation, fibromyalgia, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Chlorella has been used to treat cancer and also help protect the body from the effects of cancer radiation treatment.

The algae, which is a popular food supplement in Asia and has been used as energy-producing food for centuries, is often used to prevent or curb the spread of cancer, enhance immunity, promote a good balance of bacteria in the gut, and lower blood cholesterol. In Japan, it is traditionally used as a treatment for duodenal ulcers, gastritis, hypertension, diabetes, hypoglycemia, asthma, and constipation. More recently, it is has been touted as an effective therapy for elevated cholesterol levels, a prophylactic to ward of infections and, and adjunct treatment for cancer.

Chlorella is now used as an adjunct supplement during radiation treatment for cancer. Its abundance of chlorophyll is known to protect the body against ultraviolet radiation.

It is a nutrient-dense superfood that contains 60% protein, 18 amino acids (including all the essential amino acids), and various vitamins and minerals. One of its unique properties is a phytonutrient called CGF.

Chlorella provides all of the dietary-essential amino acids in excellent ratios. It is also a reliable source of essential fatty acids that are required for many important biochemical functions, including hormone balance. Chlorella also contains high levels of chlorophyll, beta-carotene and RNA/DNA. More than 20 vitamins and minerals are found in chlorella, including iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorous, pro-vitamin A, vitamins C, B1, B2, B2, B5, B6, B12, E and K, biotin, inositol, folic acid, plus vitamins C, E and K.

Although the algae grow naturally in fresh water, Chlorella destined for human consumption is generally cultivated outdoors in mineral-rich freshwater ponds under direct sunlight. The entire process from strain maintenance in the laboratory to harvesting of the final product is monitored by microbiologists to ensure optimal nutrient value and product purity.

Chlorella may play a role in healing fibromyalgia, hypertension, or ulcerative colitis and has a healing effect on the immune system. More studies are needed to confirm initial findings.

Research conducted in Japan suggests that chlorella may have antitumour activity against breast cancer. However, its main use in cancer therapy is to help remove radioactive particles from the body after radiation treatment.

So far, the bulk of evidence for chlorella's long list of medicinal powers comes from animal studies. Studies in mice have shown that Chlorella vulgaris can protect against the development and spread of cancer, and other rodent studies have shown that it lowers cholesterol and helps organisms get rid of toxic chemicals, such as dioxins.

Chlorella Herb Information / Side Effects

Latin Name: Chlorella pyrenoidosa

In the event of these occuring stop taking the capsules. As with all allergic reactions, it is always prudent to seek medical advice from your doctor.
Chlorella supplements can be rich in vitamin K, which can reduce the effectiveness of the blood-thinning drug warfarin.

WHEATGRASS
Wheatgrass is made from the cotyledons (seed leaves) of the normal wheat plant (Triticum aestivum). It is usually sold as a juice or powder concentrate. Consumers of wheatgrass report that their levels of energy greatly increase, their skin clears up and illnesses, coughs and allergies are alleviated.

  • 30mls of wheatgrass juice has the same nutritional value of 1 kg of green leafy vegetables.
  • 90 minerals can be found in the wheatgrass including potassium, magnesium, sodium, and calcium.
  • Wheatgrass contains enzymes such as cytochrome oxidase, protease, amylase, transhydrogenase, and lipase.
  • Wheatgrass contains 19 different amino acids.
  • The juice of wheatgrass allows the body to increase red blood cell production, thereby increasing oxygenation.
  • Wheatgrass contains a large amount of vitamin C.
Numerous health experts have determined that the chlorophyll within the wheatgrass is practically identical to that of the hemoglobin which is found within the blood of a human. The only determined difference between the two is that chlorophyll’s central element consists of magnesium while hemoglobin’s is iron.

Because of the close similarities between the hemoglobin and the chlorophyll, the body is able to make hemoglobin from the chlorophyll with ease. This serves to increase the count of red blood cells so as to deliver oxygen as well as other nutrients more efficiently.

Studies have shown that chlorophyll is able to generate red blood cells, improve blood pressure through the dilation of veins, eliminate carbon dioxide, and increase metabolism. Along with the other benefits, the consumption of chlorophyll is a great way to obtain additional energy and alkalize the blood.

Wheatgrass is highly beneficial when it comes to cleansing the body. Wheatgrass powder and juice have been shown to be a “complete” food meaning that it provides the body with almost all of the nutrients which is required for energy and survival. Only 140 g of wheatgrass can provide you with the same nutrients as 3 kgs of green, fresh vegetables.

Wheatgrass provides the consumer with vitamins E, C, and B as well as carotene which are all essential in eliminating the free radicals from the body. The substance is also known for its wonderful ability to cleanse the gastrointestinal tract, the blood, as well as the organs.

Because wheatgrass contains large amounts of saponin, it is able to boost the lymphatic system, thereby removing toxins from the body’s cells. Studies show that wheatgrass allows the body to detoxify through increasing the removal of crystallized acids, fecal matter, as well as hardened mucous. It is a fast and sure way to remove waste as well as generate a highly nutritious environment.

Wheatgrass has been shown to contain large amounts of amino acids, which are necessary to the building of protein. They are also necessary to the regeneration and growth of the body’s cells.
The juice of wheatgrass contains numerous amino acids including serine, arginine, absenisic, aspartic acid, lysine, alanine, glycine, methionine, tryptophane, leucine, valine, and phenylalanine.

Wheatgrass has been shown to protect and fight certain illnesses. The organic wheatgrass juices and powders are highly effective in the boosting of the immune system, which allows the body to fight and recover from a variety of ailments and illnesses. Wheatgrass is an excellent means of obtained beta carotene, which contains a number of B vitamins along with E, K, H, and C. It also possesses more than 90 minerals and 19 different amino acids. Wheatgrass also possesses many different enzymes, all of which promote the breaking down of fats, weight loss, and various biological functions.

Studies have demonstrated that the consumption of wheatgrass reduces carcinogen absorption while strengthening the cells, neutralizing toxic elements, and detoxifying organs such as the liver.

Wheatgrass is a living food and is anti-bacterial, and the consumption of wheatgrass can detoxify both the blood and lymph cells and well as eliminate toxins and poisons from the body in an effective and efficient manner.

E3LIVE (blue-green algae: Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA))

"The health benefits of Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA) have been reported for more than two decades, yet it is only recently that science has revealed the mechanisms by which AFA acts on the body, and the astonishing health benefits of AFA. AFA contains a wide variety of phytonutrients that promote health, such as chlorophyll, carotenoids and polyunsaturated fatty acids. All about Coconut

Coconut
(Cocos nucifera)
The Tree of Life

The scientific name for coconut is Cocos nucifera. Early Spanish explorers called it coco, which means "monkey face" because the three indentations (eyes) on the hairy nut resembles the head and face of a monkey. Nucifera means "nut-bearing."

The coconut provides a nutritious source of meat, juice, milk, and oil that has fed and nourished populations around the world for generations. On many islands coconut is a

staple in the diet and provides the majority of the food eaten. Nearly one third of the world's population depends on coconut to some degree for their food and their economy. Among these cultures the coconut has a long and respected history.

Coconut is highly nutritious and rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. It is classified as a "functional food" because it provides many health benefits beyond its nutritional content. Coconut oil is of special interest because it possesses healing properties far beyond that of any other dietary oil and is extensively used in traditional medicine among Asian and Pacific populations. Pacific Islanders consider coconut oil to be the cure for all illness. The coconut palm is so highly valued by them as both a source of food and medicine that it is called "The Tree of Life." Only recently has modern medical science unlocked the secrets to coconut's amazing healing powers.

Coconut Oil

While coconut possesses many health benefits due to its fiber and nutritional content, it's the oil that makes it a truly remarkable food and medicine.

Once mistakenly believed to be unhealthy because of its high saturated fat content, it is now known that the fat in coconut oil is a unique and different from most all other fats and possesses many health giving properties. It is now gaining long overdue recognition as a nutritious health food.

Coconut oil has been described as "the healthiest oil on earth." That's quite a remarkable statement. What makes coconut oil so good? What makes it different from all other oils, especially other saturated fats?

The difference is in the fat molecule. All fats and oils are composed of molecules called fatty acids. There are two methods of classifying fatty acids. The first you are probably familiar with, is based on saturation. You have saturated fats, monounsaturated fats, and polyunsaturated fats. Another system of classification is based on molecular size or length of the carbon chain within each fatty acid. Fatty acids consist of long chains of carbon atoms with hydrogen atoms attached. In this system you have short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA), and long-chain fatty acids (LCFA). Coconut oil is composed predominately of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA), also known as medium-chain triglycerides (MCT).

The vast majority of fats and oils in our diets, whether they are saturated or unsaturated or come from animals or plants, are composed of long-chain fatty acids (LCFA). Some 98 to 100% of all the fatty acids you consume are LCFA.

The size of the fatty acid is extremely important. Why? Because our bodies respond to and metabolize each fatty acid differently depending on its size. So the physiological effects of MCFA in coconut oil are distinctly different from those of LCFA more commonly found in our foods. The saturated fatty acids in coconut oil are predominately medium-chain fatty acids. Both the saturated and unsaturated fat found in meat, milk, eggs, and plants (including most all vegetable oils) are composed of LCFA.

MCFA are very different from LCFA. They do not have a negative effect on cholesterol and help to protect against heart disease. MCFA help to lower the risk of both atherosclerosis and heart disease. It is primarily due to the MCFA in coconut oil that makes it so special and so beneficial.

There are only a very few good dietary sources of MCFA. By far the best sources are from coconut and palm kernel oils.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the Shelf Life of VIRGIN Coconut Oil?

Our producers have had samples of VIRGIN coconut oil have not shown any signs of rancidity even after 3 years.

2. Is Coconut Oil a Seed Oil?

No. Coconut oil is classified as a vegetable oil, even if the coconut fruit that matures is actually the seed from which the new coconut tree will grow from.

3. What is the difference between VIRGIN & COPRA?

If you buy regular coconut oil, chances are it came from dried copra. This usually sits in a warehouse and gets oiled after a few months. This is bleached and deodorized. This is why there is no coconut aroma. High heat is also used which is why this type of oil is yellowish in color.

VIRGIN coconut oil is cold-pressed immediately upon opening of the coconut. The oil is extracted before the fermentation process sets in. It is normally bottled or packed within 8 hours from the time the nut is opened. This is not bleached nor deodorized, maintaining the freshness and the faint sweet coconut scent It will also be clear as water in liquid form because no high heat was used in it’s processing. If heated too much it will have caramelized sugars and have too srtong of a coconut smell and a buttery texture.

Some people still use the old fermentation process, which is expelling the coconut milk then letting the coconut milk sit for 20 to 36 hours to allow the natural fermentation process to separate the oil. This process turns the oil sour and has a short shelf life due to the high moisture content. This home made oil is alright for home use, if the oil will be used immediately. The shelf life of this type of oil is two weeks to a maximum of two months. This type of oil turns rancid in a short period of time because of the high moisture content.
4. What is Organic VIRGIN Coconut Oil?

Organic VIRGIN Coconut oil is Oil produced from a Certified Organic Farm . The process should have also been Certified as Organic. The processing plant is also inspected and certified to have used only food grade equipment, usually only stainless steel. That the processing is natural with no chemical preservatives or additives.

All Philippines coconut trees used to be ORGANIC. Today however, we are SAD to SAY that the Philippines Coconut Authority has started promoting the use of fertilizer on the coconut trees to improve the yield of nuts from the coconut trees.

If you are buying ORGANIC, ask for the Organic Certification.

If you are purchasing VIRGIN COCONUT OIL then the VCO must be clear as water and have a sweet coconut scent. If is not clear as water and does not have a mild coconut aroma then you know it is not VIRGIN COCONUT OIL.

Fermented Coconut Oil will have a Sour and Rancid smell. Some producers will also try to filter their fermented VCO in charcoal to try to remove the sour smell but instead that process gives the VCO a burnt smell and taste.

So, do a smell and taste test.

Not all Virgin coconut Oil are alike. Just like not all Coconuts are Organic.

5. What are the attributes of Coconut Oil?

Coconut oil is one of the most stable oils and is highly resistant to rancidity (It is the unsaturated fats in the common seed oils that are easily oxidized and susceptible to rancidity). It is stable because of its high proportion of saturated fats. Coconut oil is mild on the skin and is widely used in the tropics. Film-forming qualities allow it to act as a skin moisturizer and a protectant against moisture loss. Its natural detergency and lathering capabilities give a double purpose as a cleansing agent for soaps and shampoos.
